The special characteristic of twisted covering yarn and ply yarn is that in the process of adding twist both inner and outer yarn is twisted while air covered and conventional covered yarn only the outer yarn is twisted.  By twisted both yarns, the inner yarn is better protected and will not show on the surface.  Fabrics which uses twisted covering yarn will have a flat surface and tighter constructions.
